Q: What type
of wood is it?
A: Our hardwood consists mostly of Ash, Oak, Beech and Birch, although
a small percentage could be other species. Softwood is available on
request.
Q: What is
the difference between hardwood and softwood?
A: Hardwood logs do not spit like softwood and have a higher calorific
value i.e. they burn slower, longer and give off more heat.
Q: What
weight is a load of logs?
A: We do not sell any of our wood by weight for the simple reason that
is a natural product and the moisture content varies from atmospheric
conditions, wood species and length of seasoning.
Q: How should
I store firewood?
A: In a cool dry place either inside or outside, preferably with air
circulation.
Q: How long
will a load of logs last?
A: This depends on how many fires you have, how well your
fireplace draws, and if your fire is mainly for heat or
effect. As a guide, the average amount our customers use is a
2 cubic metre load of hardwood per year.
Q: How soon
can you deliver?
A: Local deliveries 2-3 days, nationwide 3-5 days.
Q: Where does
the wood come from?
A: The majority of wood comes from our own thinning of local estate
woodlands. (Please see our wood
sources page for more info.)
Q: How big is
a load?
A: We sell our loads by the cubic metre (available in 1,2 or 3 metres)
see our products page
for pictures.
Q: Why use
wood for heat?
A: Using wood helps reduce carbon emissions as it comes from a
renewable source and is largely carbon neutral.
